In the 2015 NHL Draft the Arizona Coyotes selected Dylan Strome with the 3rd overall pick. They were excited. Fans were excited.

Subsequently very little attention was paid to the Coyotes’ other first round draft from the 2015 NHL Draft, a center from the Kelowna Rockets named Nick Merkley.

Maybe a little more attention is due to Merkley, as he was just named the WHL Player Of the Week for his 8 points in 3 games last week.

Merkley notched 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points in only 3 games last week to earn the honor. He also has a flair for the dramatic as you can see below…

Merkley’s top point season was 20 goals and 70 assists for 90 points last year for Kelowna. He is a little behind pace for topping that this season, but as I noted previously when Merkley gets going he often scores in bunches. Let’s hope he adds a little more consistency in there as well.
